Global CitizenshipFirst grade students developed a Recycling Program for our Primary School in the City of Buffalo as part of their Global Citizen Inquiry!
Student's spent time learning about what it means to be a responsible citizen of the classroom, community and of the world!
School 48's Green TeamOur elementary building did not have a recycling program. As a team (myself and 16 1st graders) we reached out the the City of Buffalo to be added to the Recycling Route, the city provided large cans, but not individual receptacles for classrooms. As a team the students went to the cafeteria and asked the staff for left over boxes to "reuse" as recycle bins. The students decorated each of the boxes and delivered them to each classroom.
In order for our program to be successful...we needed to advertise! Students created How To Guides using Comic Life an iPad App that were printed and posted around the school! |
Social Studies PracticesThe following are social studies practices that are embedded within my curriculum. These 6 practices are a focus of my lessons to ensure students have a better understanding of each by the end of the year.
Writing in Social Studies! As an educator, I always try to integrate my curriculum across the content areas. Here you will find a few writing samples from my 1st Grade Green Team!
